Care Givers are important and a vital link in the lives of Persons with severe Disabilities, those who are not able to perform the Activities of Daily Living. It is basically the parents, mainly the mother who is the primary Care Giver. The parent’s life revolves around their children or the adult with disability. This sacrifices their social life for their children. It takes heavy toll on their physical, mental health.
Finding Care Giver is a gigantic task, in this competitive world, where there is a mad race to sustain. The Care Givers are to start with extremely good over time. When they realize the dependency of person, they become demanding, dominate, dictate, and decide the day today routine and life of Person with Disabilities. Virtually, they become the Masters of their Masters. On the other hand, the Care Seeker, the Person with Disability compromises on his freedom, liberty and privacy.
Then what is the solution for the Care Givers?
The Government should come up with a clear draft policy in consonance with the UN Convention of rights of Persons with Disabilities, to live a care free life on their own terms.
